Leo Messi loses all his cool with Barcelona and does the unimaginable
This season has seen Lionel Messi lose all his patience with Barcelona after serving the club for almost 20 years and the main reason behind Messi falling out with Barca would be because of Josep Maria Bartomeu and Eric Abidal.
A few weeks ago rumours had emerged about Lionel Messi considering turning down the option of renewing his contract that is set to expire in the summer of 2021. Many believe that the reason behind Leo’s decision is because of the board that has dragged the club down to the cleaners in recent times.
The board led by Bartomeu and former Barca defender Eric Abidal have been involved in too many controversies that have hampered the club’s reputation. From hiring hackers to defame the current squad and former players to money laundering to unjustifiable signings and departures, there is absolutely nothing the board has not done.
This season in particular has seen Messi reach his boiling point. The captain spoke candidly about how the current squad lacks the quality to compete in the Champions League a few months ago while on an interview with Mundo Deportivo while also thrashing the board on Instagram on two occasions.
In fact, the Argentine forward’s opinion on the club is not wrong. Barcelona is no longer the club it was once and it has not yet been accepted by the board and the fans. The current average age of the starting eleven by Quique Setien is almost 30 years old, this has never happened before in the history of the club.
Barcelona has lost three trophies already this season and is on the verge of going trophyless. The Catalans were knocked out from the Copa del Rey and the Spanish Super Cup and have realistically lost the league to Real Madrid as well.
The only hope Barca has is winning the Champions League which seems to be a serious challenge as the club drew their away fixture and will not have Arturo Vidal in the return leg since he received a red card. Vidal has been in prime form so far and his absence might prove to be pivotal for Napoli.In terms of building a squad for the future, the board has failed to do that as well. Arthur Melo and Marc Cucurella were sold this season, two promising talents. Meanwhile, the club have decided to sell Emerson Royal has had a stellar season at Real Betis this season while on loan.
The current toxic presence that prevails at the Camp Nou because of the board would also probably lead to other senior players leaving Barca in a season or two like Messi since no one would want to risk their career at a sinking club led by poor incompetent directors.
Diaro GOL reports that Lionel Messi has completely given up on Barcelona and now his only focus is on himself and winning individual awards rather than caring about the team. The report goes on to state that Messi prefers Real Madrid to turn around the tie against Manchester City rather than Juventus since he would prefer the Los Blancos to win their 14th Champions League rather than Cristiano Ronaldo winning his 6th Champions League which would assure him his 6th Ballon d’Or as well.It is absolutely shocking that the board of Barcelona has pushed Leo Messi to this level to become selfish. The captain is one of the least selfish players in world football and always priortizes success for the team over his personal accolades. However, it seems like the board has got on Leo’s last nerve as the player has no regard left whatsoever.
